Mari Iwamoto’s jewellery gives form to her exploration of perceptions of identity and belonging and their often precarious nature. Born in Japan and now living in Germany, she uses her work to express, poignantly, the surprising sense of dislocation she feels, seeing both countries and cultures now as an outsider.

Mari was born in Tokyo in 1987. She studied at Hiko Mizuno College of Jewelry in Tokyo before moving to Germany to complete her postgraduate diploma at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich.
