Vera Siemund

With their powers of association, Vera Siemund has long made architecture, historical ornament and classical references the focus of her work. Her hand-pierced, enamelled jewellery shows us classical forms in a contemporary light and reminds us of the elegance of things past. She appreciates the richness in the details of Gothic buildings, old jewellery, the work of Dürer and textiles and transforms them into eloquent, elegant and magnificently crafted contemporary jewellery.

Born in Essen in Germany in 1971, Vera studied at the Staatliche Zeichenakademie in Hanau and then in Dorothea Prühl’s class at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle (Saale). Her work is exhibited and collected widely and features in numerous collections, including the Marzee Collection, Die Neue Sammlung in Munich, the Deutsches Goldschmiedehaus in Hanau, CODA Museum Apeldoorn, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. She was awarded the Marzee Prize in 2006.
