Joo Hyung Park

Joo Hyung Park creates jewellery and objects in metal, wood, and urushi (lacquer). Each piece of wood is unique, and as she carves, two patterns emerge. ‘One is the pattern the wood and I created together, and the other is a colour pattern created from peeling improvised layers of natural lacquer accumulated over the wood.’ In combining jewellery with everyday objects such as chopsticks, spoons and bowls, she unites her Asian heritage and European experience.

Joo Hyung Park was born in Korea and holds a bachelor’s from Rhode Island School of Design in Providence in the US and a master’s from the Royal College of Art in London. Her work has been exhibited across Asia, Europe and the US.
