Andrea Wippermann

The natural world – especially gardens and insects – has always inspired Andrea Wippermann and she reflects her fascination with its diversity in pieces wrought in exquisitely fine, hammered gold and silver, the intense hues of industrial and traditional jewellery enamels and discs of steel, copper and titanium. Proportion is central to her work, in terms not only of size but also of weight and colour and the power of her jewellery lies in its harmonious balance.

Born in Rostock in Germany in 1963, Andrea Wipperman trained as a goldsmith at VEB Ostsee-Schmuck in Ribnitz-Damgarten before studying at Hochschule für Kunst und Design Burg Giebichenstein in Halle (Saale). In 2007, she was appointed Professor of Jewellery Design at the University of Wismar. Her work can be seen in collections such as the Marzee Collection and CODA Museum in the Netherlands, the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Berlin, Kunstmuseum Moritzburg in Halle, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Rotasa Foundation collection in California.
