What forms us? What affects our personality? Reflecting on my relationship with my parents, I realised how deeply I was formed and affected by my mum in particular. The parent-child relationship has been discussed in different cultures forever. In the West, psychologists generally agree that early childhood is the most important period for establishing personality. However, for thousands of years, some Eastern cultures have believed that this influence goes back even before this life, the bond created through many lives. Even though the memories are gone, the experience, the way of living, habits, interests and talent from past lives are brought together in this life. The parent-child relationship can be a lifelong struggle but wrapped up with love and care.
