Antje Bräuer
The particular beauty of Antje Bräuer’s work lies in its elemental strength. Bold, honest and filled with creative energy, her jewellery seems almost to grow from her materials – wood, metal, porcelain. She leaves space for the wearer’s interpretations and memories to add depth and colour over the passage of time. Despite a preference for brooches – objects which afford her the freedom to work more sculpturally – her more recent work has included a series of necklaces which illustrate her sense of composition and an assured understanding of jewellery’s more obvious and intimate relationship to the body.
Born in Großenhain outside of Dresden in 1972, Antje Bräuer undertook two years of goldsmiths’ training before studying for her diploma and master’s in Dorothea Prühl’s class at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle. Antje was awarded the Marzee Prize in 2013 and her work is held in international public and private collections, including the Marzee Collection, CODA Museum in the Netherlands, the Alice and Louis Koch Collection in Zurich, Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim and the Rotasa Foundation in California.
