Tore Svensson

Iron and steel are the chosen materials of metalsmith and jeweller Tore Svensson. Working in long series, the time-consuming process of his craft is an important part of his creative expression. Uninterested in narrative in his work, Tore seeks simple geometric forms, objects for contemplation which can speak quietly for themselves. Fired with linseed, his blackened surfaces are sometimes etched, gilded or painted, expressing his interest in painting and his sense that his pieces are as much images as they are sculptures.

Tore Svensson was born in Född Alfta in Sweden in 1948 and went to art school in Gävle before studying as a silversmith at HDK School of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg. Formerly a lecturer at HDK, Tore’s work is exhibited internationally and widely collected. Pieces can be seen in the Marzee Collection, the Rhösska Museum in Gothenburg, the National Museum in Stockholm, the Contemporary Art Society in London, the Helen Williams Drutt Collection in Houston, Texas and the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra.
