Carmen Hauser

For Carmen Hauser, making jewellery is inextricably bound to her physical and emotional being. Theory and concept are not what drives her work. Jewellery is her language, and her feelings and intuition guide her through the creative process, taking the work back to its origins, back to nature. In so doing, she transforms her surroundings into her materials. Soil and leaves dried or hardened in resin, wood bound with cord – she creates powerful jewellery redolent of rough-hewn stones, fossilised trees, relics from the earth.

Carmen Hauser was born in Wiesbaden in Germany in 1977 and studied both her bachelor’s and her master’s at Trier University of Applied Sciences in Idar-Oberstein. Her work has been exhibited across Europe and can been seen in the Marzee Collection, CODA Museum in the Netherlands and the Centre National des Arts Plastiques (CNAP)/Fonds National d’Art Contemporain in France.
