Ann Schmalwasser

The jewellery of Ann Schmalwasser alludes to the ‘transience and concomitant inconstancy of impressions, movement, speed and changing images that cannot be stopped; the ambiguities, the reality.’ Landscapes are her starting point. Working in metals which she finds cold, rigid and reminiscent of mountains, icebergs, crevices, she abstracts the forms into pictorial fragments.

Ann was born in Zossen in Germany in 1975. Following her goldsmiths’ training in Berlin, she moved to Halle (Saale) to study jewellery under Dorothea Prühl and then as a postgraduate in the department of graphic art. Her work has been exhibited internationally and can be seen in the Marzee Collection and at the Deutsches Bernsteinmuseum in Ribnitz–Damgarten.
